Private Pay vs. Insurance

There are several advantages and drawbacks to private pay and to using insurance.  The drawback to private pay is the immediate out-of-pocket expense.

Confidentiality, Privacy, and Stigma

  • The guarantee is that the only knowledge that one is receiving therapy is the client and the therapist. Except for the normal limits of confidentiality, therapy is completely confidential, without any third party having access to information exchanged in session.

  • Most insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis to cover therapy sessions. This means that several issues, such as relationship conflict, marriage counseling, life stress or life transitions, and personal growth, are not covered by insurance. Once a diagnosis is given, it becomes part of the individual's medical record.

  • When paying out-of-pocket, there is no requirement for a mental health diagnosis, which means anyone can seek treatment without concern. Private pay carries the additional benefit of reducing pressure to diagnose individuals who simply need help to cope with some areas of life but do not have a specific mental health diagnosis.

Private pay clients have full control

of their treatment. They can choose

the focus of their therapy, the duration, frequency, and even the length of individual sessions. Insurance limits the focus of therapy, the duration, frequency, and length of individual sessions.

2

Cancelation Policy

To cancel or reschedule, the client must contact our office through email, call or text 24 hours before the scheduled time of the session. The client will be charged the full session fee for late cancellation and/or no-show if this contact is not made.

I certainly understand that things come up. I only ask that you give a 24-hour notice so that someone else can be seen during the available time. When an appointment is made for you, I reserve that time just for you. If you miss your appointment, this time may have been spent with another client. Therefore, you will be charged if you do not show up or late cancel an appointment. A credit or debit card must be kept on file for this reason and will be charged at the time of your missed appointment. Please remember that if you are late for your appointment, there may not be the possibility of lengthening your session to provide you with your full time. If you arrive 15 minutes late, your appointment must be rescheduled.

New Appointment

Cancelations and No Shows

All paperwork must be completed and submitted within 48 hours of your appointment.  If it is not received, your appointment spot will not be held. The cancellation and no-show fees are applied to your initial appointment.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE Information

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, healthcare providers and healthcare facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal healthcare program or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises

Testimonials

"It’s been two years since my last counseling session, and I’ve seen its positive impact on my life. It was valuable to gain new perspectives (even when they were hard to hear) and allow time to heal from negative past experiences while creating healthy boundaries. Some days are more challenging than others, but the insights I learned then help me overcome those moments now. I sincerely appreciate Jennifer for guiding me through a difficult time and equipping me with lifelong tools."
